The wonder with which a child views the world, the beauty with which a poet can describe it, when did we forget how beautiful the world can be?
Beauty isn’t just a human opinion, it’s a window to the divine. It’s why we stand in awe before a mountain, a melody, a painting. Beauty is the cultivation of everything good in general experience; it embodies harmony, balance and proper order.
For me, this has a great role to play in the way a just person ought to live.
A wise person knows he’ll never achieve the perfect life, but he is always striving for it.
The striving implies that this person has an idea of what true virtue and perfection looks like.
This is where beauty comes in. Beauty, is capable of achieving divine order. And that way, it’s an inspiration for us as mere imperfect beings, to strive, to hope, to climb.
Take more time to see beauty: buy a piece of art, watch the sun set, watch the way a tree sheds its autumn leaves, and listen to the birds when you wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
For noticing beauty keeps your soul aimed at that which is higher.
